Volley
A volley is a shot played before the ball touches the ground, intercepting it directly from the opponent's stroke. In beach tennis, the ball may not bounce at all (Rule 9.3 states the ball shall not bounce), so all groundstrokes are effectively volleys in the technical sense; however, the term "volley" conventionally refers to shots played close to the net with a short punch or block action. Volleying is permitted from any position. The return of serve may be played as a volley (no requirement to let the ball bounce).
