Backspin (Slice)

Backspin (also called slice) is reverse rotation imparted on the ball, making it float and slow in flight. In beach tennis, backspin is used for defensive lobs and drop shots to reduce pace and keep the ball low after the opponent's contact. A ball with heavy backspin tends to sit up or skid, giving the opponent less time or a more awkward contact angle. Backspin shots are legal provided the contact is clean (no double hit or carry).
