A beach tennis umpire keeps the match fair and the score authoritative. The hard parts are not the obvious calls. they are the bookkeeping: whose serve it is, when ends change, the tie-break rotation, and recording lets and hindrances correctly.

Serve order

Track which team serves each game and, in doubles, which player. Announce the server when there is any doubt. See serve rules.

The tie-break

Apply ITF Rule 8b: first point by the player on turn, then alternate every two points, with ends changing at the set interval. This is the most common place for scoring disputes. see the tie-break guide.

Lets & hindrance

A let replays the point; a hindrance replays or awards it depending on intent. Record these consistently so the score history is defensible.
