Two players, one wall at the net. Here is how good pairs cover the court and win points.
In beach tennis doubles, both partners play side by side near the net to form a wall, cover the middle by agreement, attack with the smash, and use the lob to push opponents back. Communication on middle balls and lobs is what separates good pairs from frustrated ones.
How Good Pairs Play.
Side by side
Unlike tennis, beach tennis doubles is usually played with both partners level, near the net. it forms a wall that is hard to pass. Step back together only to cover a lob.
Cover the middle
Most errors happen on the middle ball. agree in advance who takes it (often the forehand player) so you do not both leave it or both go for it.
Lob and smash
The lob pushes an aggressive pair off the net; the smash is your finishing shot when they lob you. Practising both is the fastest way to win more points.
Serve and return
On serve, look to follow it in and pressure the net. on return, your goal is a low, controlled volley that keeps them from attacking. See serving.
Talk
Call "mine"/"yours", call "lob", and reset between points. communication is the cheapest way to win.
